How Meta charges, in plain English.

Per delivered message

Meta charges when a message is delivered, not when it’s sent. Undelivered messages aren’t charged.

By the customer’s country

The rate depends on the country code of the number you message, not where your business is. Some countries have their own rate; others share a regional rate.

By message type

Marketing costs the most. Utility and authentication cost less. Meta decides a template’s category when it reviews it.

The 24-hour window

When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens. Meta charges for utility templates in that window, and for replies after the first 1,000 free each month per phone number.

Free after ads

When a customer messages you from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad on the WhatsApp mobile app and you reply within 24 hours, every message is free for up to 7 days from your reply.

No ConvoHut markup

Meta bills your own Meta account directly. ConvoHut charges only its flat plan.

Where do these rates come from?

Meta’s official AUD rate card effective 1 October 2026. Meta changes rates from time to time, usually with notice. Check Meta’s pricing page for the current card before you budget.

Why can’t I send marketing messages to the United States?

Meta currently doesn’t deliver marketing template messages to WhatsApp users with US phone numbers. Utility, authentication and service messages still work.

Why is Australia priced as “Rest of Asia Pacific”?

Meta doesn’t publish a separate rate for Australia. Australian numbers use the Rest of Asia Pacific rate.

Is the ConvoHut plan charged per message?

No. ConvoHut is a flat plan. The estimator adds it so you can see your total.

Why are Meta charges shown in AUD?

Meta publishes an official rate card in Australian dollars, and we use those rates directly with no currency conversion. Meta bills in the currency you chose for your WhatsApp Business Account, so if you chose another currency your invoice follows Meta’s rate card for that currency.
